Frequently asked questions
How do I use the AI commands?
Choose a service in Settings › AI. Apple Intelligence works on the device and needs no key. For Claude or OpenAI, paste an API key from the provider’s website (Anthropic or OpenAI); usage is billed by them. Every AI plan is shown for your approval before anything changes, and deletions go to the Trash.
Why does RouteFM ask for access to my home folder?
RouteFM comes from the App Store, so macOS only lets it open folders you’ve chosen. Granting your home folder once lets you browse it freely, and RouteFM remembers the choice. You can also add folders one at a time.
How do I connect my iPhone wirelessly?
Install RouteFM on the iPhone, sign in to the same Apple Account as your Mac, and turn on Mac Access. The iPhone then appears in the Phone pane on your Mac. With a cable, unlock the iPhone and tap “Trust” if asked.
Some commands don’t work in the terminal (git, Homebrew, my zsh theme)
App Store apps run in a sandbox that blocks most command-line tools. For a full terminal, turn on Remote Login in System Settings › General › Sharing, then choose Settings › General › Shell runs › On This Mac (Remote Login) in RouteFM. RouteFM then logs in to your own account, and everything works as in Terminal.
A server says its identity (host key) changed
RouteFM remembers each SFTP server’s identity and warns you if it changes, because that can mean someone is intercepting the connection. If you know the server was reinstalled, remove it and add it again.
Can I undo a change?
Yes. On the Mac, press ⌘Z right after a copy, move, rename or delete — including ones an AI plan made. Deleted items go to the Trash.
